My final finished evaluation;
Evaluation
My media product uses some forms and conventions of thriller. The first noticeable form and convention in the product is the editing. For example some of our editing includes fast action snap shots to show tension and build up. The mis-en-scene also goes well with the product as it is in a well known environment, it not necessarily an every day environment, but many people have played or seen ‘laser quest’ before and can relate to it. You could also say, however, that the environment challenges that of a typical thriller as it does not occur often in a thriller, a more common situation would be in a dark wooded area or an old house etc. They are also all holding guns which is a form commonly associated with thriller films as it creates abnormality and is not something seen every day. Thrillers can be associated in many different ways, although our movie does not quite contain a lot of the typical props used in thrillers such as knives, scary masks/faces etc, but one can be a gun which is included in our media product. The gun is shown as a symbol of violence. This is the stereotypical thriller which therefore agrees with the forms and conventions. There are some forms and conventions in the media product though which do not agree with the forms and conventions of thriller. One of these was the set. This challenged the conventions as it is not a typical place for a thriller to take place.
My media product represents a social group of stereotypical young boys associated with guns and violence. It also shows that girls can be venerable to a social group if this kind.
My media product attracts and aims at quite a wide age group from about 15 to 40 as it is quite fast paced so not for the too old, and quite violent so not for the too young. However I am not insinuating that over 40’s will not enjoy it. This is appealing to this age group as is a stereo typical view of what people this age would like to see. The gender of my target audience would be mainly male however I hope it can appeal to some females as well to give a wide range.
The media product might be distributed to an institution which has created similar films before and with a relatively similar audience. An example of this could be the producers of ‘Friday 13th’ or ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’. One of these could be ‘Twisted Pictures’ that produces the saw films. These are the industries that are typically associated with thriller genre.
The audience for my media product would be 18-26 as this was the age group that most watched TV in a survey that I did in the general public. This will not be the only audience as it will also attract other members that are older. We attracted the audience by trying to keep to the forms and conventions of a thriller as the audience would be watching this for the genre, this may have been because if it was on T.V it would say it is a thriller and if we went against the forms and conventions they may not be attracted t keep watching. We also keep the audience watching by building up suspense with the slow motion actions and then the music speeds up which make the audience keep watching as they want to see what happens next. The audience is also attracted into the story as it is not quite clear what has happened, so what to watch more to find out what happened and why. From the process of constructing this product I have learnt how the camera works and widened my knowledge of editing. I have used most of the equipment that we used before so had an understanding. I already knew how to edit clips but I had never created a media product before. I used the skills I already knew and then developed them by experimenting with the clips and seeing which transitions etc. would wok best. The editing software we used was ‘Imovie’ on the apple ‘macs’. I usually use windows movie maker so it took a bit of time to get used to. I have also learnt that each member of the group should back everything up on a memory stick in case the work is lost from the laptop all together or if a group member or members are not here, I still have the work to be getting on with.

First short media project (so far)
Today our group had finished filming all the footage that we needed and I started editing. I did all the filming in the group and i also did a lot of editing. We have not yet finished all the editing but the majority of the editing is finished. We just need to add a few finishing transitions and touches. We are also in search for a good soundtrack to go with our short film which is quite hard. Sophie and Sam Pepper where in the short film.
